Going to Try Something Different for a While

So maybe you knew this about me but I went to school and got a degree in Music. Yep, that’s right. I studied classical music for three years at UC Davis. Everything from JS Bach to CPE Bach and some stuff in between.

While I was there, I was exposed to classical music of all types and even had to try my hand at a lot of them. But one experience I’ll never forget was performing with the University Chorus. We performed works by Mahler and Beethoven and some other people who weren’t important. But singing classical music always gave me such a thrill. I think it was dressing up in a tux for gigs.

I’ve kinda been in limbo lately with the album being put on hold and all sorts of things going on in my life. I’ve been listening to different kinds of music as a result. One of those types is classical singers, the epitome of whom are the Three Tenors.

No one did more for classical music in the latter half of the 20th century than these guys. Also, no one did more for stupid jokes about being on the potty than these guys (I’m looking at you, Pavarotti… RIP).

I’ve always admired these guys for their abilities as baritone singers. So that’s why I tried out an old classic everyone has performed: Ave Maria. It’s like the “Yesterday” of classical music.

I have to say, I’m pretty proud of this video. It might be my best so far. I think I’ll learn another classical piece, “The Prayer” by Andrea Bocelli/Josh Groban and Celine Dion next. Just need to get Celine to return some of my Twitter messages… and hope she forgot about that Cease and Desist letter her lawyers sent to me last year…
